Taking the courageous step to transform your life includes caring for yourself including mind, body and spirit, as none of these aspects of ourselves operate in a vacuum. We have a continual feedback loop, from our body, to our mind, to our consciousness and back again. Much of this information passes through our Vagus Nerve which Resmaa Menakem refers to as the "Soul Nerve" in his groundbreaking New York Times best selling book, My Grandmother's Hands. If you struggle with symptoms related to stress, trauma, anxiety, high sensitivity or sensory processing issues that are impacting your overall well-being and quality of life, your Vagus (Soul) Nerve may need some TLC. The Safe and Sound Protocol does just this, in a safe and noninvasive way, using your ears as a portal to your Vagus Nerve and system as a whole.
Understanding the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)
Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, is an evidence based groundbreaking auditory intervention designed to regulate the nervous system and promote feelings of safety and calmness. Rooted in Polyvagal Theory, SSP targets the body's physiological responses to stress, fostering resilience, emotional regulation, connection and collaboration.
The Science Behind SSP
SSP utilizes specially filtered music to stimulate the Vagus Nerve, a key component of the autonomic nervous system responsible for regulating essential bodily functions including our response to real or perceived cues of threat and safety . By engaging the Vagus Nerve through listening, SSP helps individuals shift from a state of hyper-vigilance to one of relaxation and social engagement.
The Logistics
SSP is a protocol that is highly individualized based on the recipient's presenting concerns, unique nervous system state and sensitivities. The therapeutic portion of the intervention includes 5 hours of listening that can be administered in a number of different ways including in person and/or virtually. Most important in the use of this intervention is the collaboration and co-regulation between the recipient and the provider to ensure optimal benefit with minimal discomfort. Depending on the unique needs of the recipient, some of the listening may be done independently. This will be assessed and built into the treatment plan with your provider. At TheraChi Healing LLC, we use Reiki as a primary way to support the recipient while listening however other options are available.

What is the Rest and Restore Protocol™ (RRP)?
The RRP is a therapeutic listening protocol designed by Dr. Stephen Porges and neuroscientist and music and audio innovator, Anthony Gorry. It is designed to help calm and restore emotional, mental and physical functioning by entraining the nervous system through rhythmic stimulation.
How is the RRP different from the SSP?
The SSP is geared towards social engagement and works with the Ventral Vagus through the auditory pathway. It aims to create safety in social situations encouraging outward connection and co-regulation with others. The RRP is designed to foster a sense of inner connection and self-regulation with a focus on the Dorsal Vagus, promoting relaxation and grounding within the body. In other words, the SSP focuses on creating safety with others, while the RRP focuses on creating safety within oneself.
RRP Logistics
Similar to the SSP, the RRP is meant to compliment other therapies opposed to being a "stand alone service". The RRP is sequential and gradually exposes the listener to increasing complexity in acoustic parameters over the course of 5 hours with the intent to gently bring the body into harmony. As with the SSP, the RRP can be administered in person, virtually and/or independently and requires on-going collaboration, co-regulation and titration as each nervous system responds to the music differently. Individual needs will be assessed and built into the treatment plan with your provider.

Benefits of Safe and Sound Protocol
- Enhanced Emotional Regulation: SSP promotes self-regulation by soothing the nervous system and reducing the impact of stressors on emotional well-being.
- Improved Social Connections: By fostering a sense of safety and trust, SSP enables individuals to engage more comfortably in social interactions, strengthening relationships and communication skills.
- Reduced Anxiety and Overwhelm: Many individuals experience a significant reduction in anxiety levels and sensory overload after undergoing SSP, allowing for greater resilience in navigating daily challenges.
- Enhanced Focus and Attention: SSP has been shown to enhance focus and attention, particularly in individuals with ADHD or attention-related issues, leading to improved concentration and productivity.
- Better Sleep Quality: By promoting relaxation and reducing physiological arousal, SSP can contribute to better sleep quality and overall restorative rest.

Choosing the Right Level of Support for Your Healing Journey
Our Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) and Rest and Restore Protocol (RRP) offerings are powerful tools for nervous system regulation and emotional healing. Because these protocols work directly with your body’s stress response system, it's important that we match you with the right level of support to ensure safety, stability, and lasting results.
Before beginning, we ask all clients to complete a brief screening form and free 20 minute consultation. This helps us understand your current symptoms, environment, and nervous system state so we can recommend the most appropriate tier of care.
Why screening matters:
Everyone’s system responds differently to sound and somatic work. While some may thrive with self-paced support, others—especially those with a history of trauma, complex medical challenges, heightened sensitivity, or ongoing stress—benefit from more guided, relational support. Choosing the right package helps prevent overwhelm, promotes integration, and sets you up for success.
Our goal is to support your healing in the most aligned and effective way possible. This screening process allows us to do just that—with care, attention, and integrity.
Given the needs of each unique nervous system and required collaboration and co-regulation in order to safely administer both SSP and RRP we offer 3 different options with add-ons as needed.
All packages include the following basics and are included in the Initial Fee:
Additional family members for the purpose of co-regulation (ie: a parent or spouse/partner) are $150/license.
Packages are flexible and are intentional in the level of support that they provide. If we decide on a package and determine at some point that it is not the right fit (ie: too little or too much support), we can supplement with add-ons and or change packages. The monthly fee continues as long as you are actively listening to SSP Core and working through your first round of RRP. Once these are completed we will decide together what level of support you need going forward in your final integration/wrap up session. *You will have access to SSP Connect and Balance (un-filtered and lightly filtered pathways) and RRP for one year from the start of listening.
Add-ons
Add-ons include additional co-regulation/listening and nervous system regulation coaching using Heartmath as well as somatic and energy balancing techniques for the purpose of supporting regulation and coherence:
This is not therapy.
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) and Rest and Restore Protocol (RRP) offered through Journey with Kindred Souls are wellness and nervous system support services, not psychotherapy. These offerings are designed to enhance self-regulation, emotional resilience, and mind-body connection—but they are not a substitute for mental health treatment. If you are in crisis or currently working with a licensed therapist, these services can complement your care, but do not replace it.
For Existing Therapy Clients (TheraChi Healing):
Special pricing is available for current therapy clients.
If you are already receiving therapy through TheraChi Healing, your SSP or RRP services are integrated into your treatment plan. This means your pricing structure and level of support may differ from our public package offerings. Please speak directly with your therapist to learn how SSP or RRP can be woven into your sessions and to explore customized support options available to you.
